Slat takes its cue from the classic Windsor comb-back but strips the ornament out of it. Eight tapered walnut spindles rise straight from a single shaped plywood seat, fanning just enough to support the back without ever feeling stiff. Each spindle is hand-sanded to a slightly different taper so the comb reads as a single woven gesture rather than eight identical dowels.

The seat is saddled — scooped and rounded at the front edge — the one piece of joinery hidden from view, everything else left honest. Legs splay at a slightly steeper angle than a traditional Windsor for a lower, more contemporary stance at the table.
